Firstly, you will be asked to enter a range of personal details, such as your name, age, address and telephone number. From here, details about your motorbike will generally be asked, followed by your riding record details, including any penalty points on your license and whether you have been involved in any accidents in recent years.

Further to all details being entered, the comparison website will then send all of the information to several different insurance companies and this will take around two minutes.

The information that you will then be presented with will be a list of insurance companies that have said they will insure you, as well as the premium cost and any additional information, such as the excess amount.

In essence, that is the entire process, as you would simply follow the links to the cheapest or most suitable insurance company and purchase the motorbike insurance at the price stated. Whilst this may be the case, there are several points to consider, most notably regarding modifications to your motorbike.

Due to the nature of the insurance websites, you will very rarely be asked to list all of your motorbikes modifications and will usually be prompted to simply state whether your motorbike has any modifications or additional extras. However, it is massively important that even if you answer yes, you phone the insurance company and explain what modifications have been made, as if you were involved in an accident and you were not covered, whilst the insurance company would cover your motorbike for repairs, they would not cover the cost for the modification if they were not informed about it.
